Background of the project:

With the implementation of rejuvenation strategy and the deepening development of reform & opening-up in China, the mutual exchanges continue to enhance between our country and other countries. Only in 2006, the number of entry and exit passengers reached 100,000,000 and 32,000,000 respectively in China, and showing a rising trend year by year. As an important item of “Golden Shield Project”, the exit & entry info system aims to "speed up the clearance rate, improve the control ability, and strengthen the internal management," which will substantially improve the level of standardization and automation at border checkpoints, as well as promote the border business management to a new level.

The main function of exit & entry info system is to realize the immigration management at ports. China's informatization construction work in the field of exit & entry administration started from the middle of 1980s and achieved software unification in 1995. At present, more than 300 border checkpoints, which are all first-class, totally realize the computerized management for immigrants' information; the three-layer network is achieved and consists of three parts as follows: the border checkpoints which are at the bottom, the provincial Public Security Bureau which is in the middle, and the Ministry of Public Security which is on the top.

The technology requirements of exit & entry info system have always been promoting with the continuous advance of informatization construction process. Exit & Entry Administration Ministry of Public Security decided to upgrade the original system platform including software and hardware, and move the original NOVELL Netware system onto the platform based on Unix/Linux.

Solutions and deployment:

Apart from the nine central stations, which use the framework of Unix + minicomputer, other systems in ministry, province, and border checkpoints adopt Red Flag Linux and utilize Oracle database to store data in exit & entry info system. The whole system, which is deployed in the network of Public Security, adopts the C/S framework.

In the above figure, the data center of Ministry of Public Security is responsible for the backup and storage of exit & entry data as well as the exchange inquiries; the data of every port's exit & entry info system will be submitted to its own provincial exit & entry database system, and managed intensively by the provincial exit & entry info system; the local exit & entry info system is mainly used for data exchange at every local port; the main function of every port's server is to deal with its own business and inquire information coming from its top exit & entry info system.

In this project, the Red Flag DataCenter Server 5.0, as the core product in the series of Red Flag Linux server, has many advanced technology characteristics. It is not only a unified server operating system, but also a stable and efficient running platform of large-scale and important service. The Red Flag DataCenter Server 5.0 supports the 32 SMP framework (including Intel Hyper-Threading technology and 2-core technology), the IA32 framework server whose memory is not more than 64GB, the matched solutions such as high availability, load balancing cluster, and the mainstream business applications based on Linux; it also provides a standard network service function of Linux and a complete software development environment; so it can totally meet the technical requirements for the operating system in this project.

The Red Flag DataCenter Server 5.0, which has good compatibility for the third-party software products, is the best running platform of Oracle database, and at present, it is the only Linux distribution supported by the Oracle Company in Asia. Oracle and Red Flag Company provide users with the joint technical support which can ensure the efficient and stable operation of exit & entry info system.
