Red Flag, Wuhan Bluestar Technology and Hwa Tai Automobile enter commercial deployment phase of MeeGo*-based in-vehicle infotainment (IVI).
Time£º2010-04-16

In 2009, China became the world’s largest and fastest growing car market. In-vehicle infotainment (IVI) has become one of the key differentiations valued by car makers to compete in this emerging market.

The implementation of the Meego*-based IVI solution of Red Flag Software Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Red Flag Software) in the Hwa Tai car have unveiled in mid April 2010 at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing, followed by new car models at the Beijing car show at the end of April 2010.

To meet the growing market demand for IVI, Asia's leading Linux operating system vendor, Red Flag Software, joined Intel Corporation, Wuhan Bluestar Technology and Hwa Tai Automobile to successfully deploy the IVI system. This not only marks Red Flag Software’s entry into the IVI commercial deployment phase but also its successful entry into the domestic car industry’s information services.

Red Flag Software’s IVI system is MeeGo based. MeeGo is a Linux-based platform for a wide range of computing devices, including next-generation smartphones, netbooks, tablets, media phones, connected TVs and IVI-systems. Red Flag Software’s IVI system also runs on energy-efficient Intel® Atom™ processors. The tight integration between software and hardware has attracted widespread attention in the car industry.

“Red Flag Software adheres to a high degree of perfection in embedded systems. Red Flag Software is the first to successfully develop MeeGo*-based technology for IVI products in the domestic market that meet the quality standards of the automotive industry for software pre-loaded IVI, which has higher quality requirements than a post-loaded system. For IVI applications, the startup speed, the stability and the rapid recovery from electrical power fluctuation have requirements that far exceed normal PC applications,”said Jinshi Zhang, Director of Embedded Division of Red Flag Software. “By the end of April, 2010, Red Flag Software’s IVI system will be deployed commercially.”

“MeeGo* builds upon the capabilities of the Moblin™ core operating system and will deliver rich graphics, multitasking, and multimedia experiences in power optimized solutions,” said Ram Peddibhotla, Open Source Business director, Intel Software and Services Group. “Using MeeGo-based technology on Intel® Atom™ processors, the automotive industry can deliver a wealth of Internet, computing, and communication experiences in new IVI devices.”

Red Fag Software’s IVI will bring an unprecedented driving experience to meet the diverse needs of the users in line with modern mobile office and entertainment needs. You can improve efficiency with an ultra mobile office that includes your business and personal schedule and fully networked mobile devices. The advanced navigation system integrates real-time traffic information, locations of points of interest and friends and Web 2.0 social networks.

Red Flag is the first to successfully develop MeeGo-based technology for IVI products in the domestic market that meet the quality standards of the automotive industry for software pre-loaded IVI. Red Flag Software has seized the opportunity in the IVI industry with a strong overall design matched with the support of Red Flag Software. Red Flag Software has become a model of transformation from "Made in China" to "Designed in China". Meanwhile Red Flag Software, in cooperation with the upstream and downstream enterprises, effectively drives and promotes the IVI service industry chain.
